I'm not sure where to post this, but I'm curious if anyone has some good ideas for places to promote my new piano album? maybe sites that review albums, etc.? i can't seem to find much...

If it's classical, send copies to Gramophone magazine, BBC Music Magazine, International Piano (all British-based) and Fanfare (US).

Fanfare's business model includes the editor directly contacting artists unsolicited, guaranteeing a review if they advertise in the magazine. It has a jazz column.

BBC Music Magazine also reviews a small number of jazz and world music releases. Otherwise, try Jazzwise (for jazz) and Songlines (for world music).

If your album is easy listening or pop, I'm sure there're lots if you try googling, e.g. Rolling Stone.

Incidentally, if you live in the UK and your music is vaguely classical (i.e. it is not accompanied by an incessant beat), there is a chance you could get a track played on BBC radio. I've heard all sorts over the years, ranging from unspiritual minimalism to 'ambient' (with electronics overlay) to simple straightforward tuneful piano.

Send me a PM if you're eligible and interested.

Which reminds me... if you're in Canada you might be able to get your music onto CBC Radio. They have a lot of classical and non-classical music programs.

I'm not sure if you have to be in the union to do that, though. A friend of mine who used to be a semi-regular musician on CBC had to be in a union but that was quite a few years ago and that may have changed.

Can't hurt to contact your friendly local CBC station and ask, though.
