Hi!

I have recorded a self-composed piece, a Rondo.
(5169 kB (4 min), Windows Media Player - file)
I would like to post it on the internet so other people can hear it (feks people on this forum) and give me some comments on it.
But I have not the opportunity to post it on the net myself.
If anyone have a mailbox, large enogh, and have the possibility to post it on the net, I can send the WMP-file to them.
I would be very happy if someone could help me!
smile

What!?!

A piece that composed itself?

Wow! That must be a first in the annals of music history!

Cheers!

Before you post it on the internet, could I suggest you convert it from windows-only to the standard for audio, MP3?

You picked the right person to send it to, La_Campanella! I might have taken awhile (sorry about that!), but as an audio engineer/student/teacher/composer i am very busy alot! I have mastered your piece, adding equalizer to remove as much of the hiss as possible, limiting it to that the peaks do not distort, took out the noisy beginning before the first chord, and i took the liberty of editing the file to show you a suggestion I have (only because I enjoyed it so much would I have taken the trouble!) - I think you should end the piece right on the tierce de picardie you have well chosen, without adding any extra notes after. I have also added a concert hall reverb to give some depth (and to smooth over the edited final chord, lol). Please let me know if you'd rather them be there after hearing it, because I still have a master copy that includes them. My only other suggestion is that maybe you can work on making some of the transitions from section to section smoother, as sometimes they are very smooth but other times they are a little abrupt.

I feel a kinship to you as another composer who is interested in bringing back the power and beauty of the classical-romantic (and also impressionist-early contemporary) sound, as you will see when I soon add some recordings of my own compositions to stand beside yours on my website. One of them I believe will be particularly appropriate to show you when I think it's a good time to add extra rising arpeggio notes after the final chord, as I have employed the same technique in one of my pieces to great effect.

Your file is here :
http://blu3planet.net/~ssun/music/Sigmund%20Dyrhovden%20-%20Rondo%20in%20C%20edited%20master%20.mp3

I have encoded it also at 128kbps .mp3 format at the request of seebechstein (I think it is a good idea too), but can encode it higher if you like, the problem is that the file will end up larger than it was as a .wav!

Hope you are happy with it, and I am looking forward to sharing my compositions soon with all of PianoWorld and especially all the other composers like La_Campanella! (I am entering my Romantic Suite in a national competition next month so I can't stave off recording them any longer, always trying to wait until I can play them perfectly, lol wink )

i like that major chord at the end.

Have you (or anyone else) composed any other pieces? I already had plenty of ideas melodies and so on in mind, but I realized that Its so much easier to read music than it is to write it. Suppose i record a piece i composed, would anyone here write it out?

Yes, I agree that the ending notes is not neccessary. I think I can end the piece right on the place where it end now after your editing.
Again I will thank you for the help.
I have tried to get some of the transitions from section to section smoother, but it is difficult :-) I find the hardest thing to get the piece back in C after been played in G.

Very nicely done IMO, and well played.

The tempo change at the end seemed a bit abrupt to me in that you simply slowed the tempo seemingly between one measure and the next as opposed to a gradual slow down. But maybe that's what you intended.

Anyway, since I'm far from an expert on compositions, please don't interpret my comments as a critique. Your piece is far beyond anything I could compose. I'm just sharing my feelings as you asked.

Overall I really liked it.

Dan

La_Campanella - since you agree, the final version of this recording of your piece is here:
http://blu3planet.net/~ssun/music/Sigve%20Dyrhovden%20-%20Rondo%20in%20C%20.mp3

sorry about the name i just used the one from the email! I look forward to hearing more of your pieces and am willing to host them if you like.
(i'll work on putting some of my own pieces up there today as well)
