Hi everyone,

I'm thinking about building a stand for a digital piano and I was wondering how high the tops of the keys should be from the floor. Is there a standard height on acoustic pianos?

Thank you

I've measured several and they tend to be right around 28-3/4 inches.

Oddly enough, there is no standard, and they can vary by a few inches. Find a comfortable combination of keyboard height, bench height and pedal distance for you.

Scoob and all,

This is rather a personal subject, in as much the keyboard and your body and arms are needing an optimum height.

The standard is as Mike A says. This is usually about 29" as my Bosendorfer is. Including glass cups. I then copied the size to my stand I made in wood for the digital.

I suppose the variable is then in the bench which is mostly adjustable.

I like to sit so my arms go down at an angle of about 30 degrees and I play with drooping fingers not the flat hand style.

I would advise you to make the stand robust and quite heavy then the keybord will not move about as some do. You need to resist loads from lateral and back & forwards. I made my top to take the Kawai ES4, 4 tapered little rubber feet into holes in the wood of the stand not deeply in but enough to stop movement. It is well worth making your own as it saves quite a lot of money.

Swingal
