More used hybrids are coming to market. Below are some recent US postings; some may have been sold and some have been lingering around for a long time.

Kawai Novus, Murfreesboro, Tennessee $7900 ask (lol)

Nu1x in NY for $5500 ask

NU1 in NJ for $6099 ask (New Old Stock)

N1x new in NJ with $8999 ask (new prices paid spreadsheet shows about $7200 to $9000 range I think)

N1 in NJ with $8799 ask (lol)

N1 in North Carolina with $6500 ask

Some of those asking prices are just crazy
Agreed but they are just asking prices. Some good opportunities available today if you are local.
Posted By: dng Re: Used hybrid piano market snapshot US - 09/17/20 05:30 AM
Thanks newer player for puttting this together. As someone actively looking at buying an N2, N1X, or an Nv10 soon this has been really helpful.
There are some great deals from time to time, particularly if you are flexible on timeline. So if you see something you like at a good price jump on it.

The Nv10 rarely comes to the used market and I don't recall any compelling ask prices.

The n1x is too new to be common in the used market also.

MacMacMac can just get that N1 in the North Carolina!

I don't think so.

So that old, used N1 priced at $6500 might sit unsold for a long time.
There is an N3 in Atlanta on eBay with a $7500 ask.

And an N3 in West Palm Beach on Craigslist with a $10,200 ask.

And Kawai Novus NV5 in Pittsburg on Craigslist for $6,500 ask.

did you create a search alert on CL for hybrid pianos?
No. I just quickly browse the internet from time to time.
Interestingly, we bumped into dozens of Lego grand piano 21323 for sale on the internet. So those are easy to find now even if the stores are sold out.

I'd be a little leary of the condition of that N3 for $5K in MN. Seems too good to be true unless there's something wrong with it.

I bought a used N3 from a local authorized Yamaha dealer (they got it as a trade-in/trade-up deal) and they gave me a 90 day store warranty and they said they already had the tech go over it. Yet I still had to have it serviced in-home (after delivery) twice for 2 different issues that required 2 different electronic board replacements. So unless you're local to test out the piano thoroughly, I'd be very leary about buying them sight unseen without a warranty to be shipped in from out-of-state, especially for a very low price like that N3.

Also make sure you have a qualified Yamaha AvantGrand tech available in your area in case you need it serviced. They seem to be a rather rare breed that only live in large metropolitan areas.

Helpful wisdom as you own an N3 that required quite a bit of "refurbishing".

At this price, still worth a look if one is in the area and is interested in digital pianos.
Posted By: Volusiano Re: Used hybrid piano market snapshot US - 10/12/20 07:55 PM
Yeah, I agree that it's still worth checking out at that price. It doesn't hurt to inquire more about it anyway. Just be careful. If I were in the area, I'd check it out for sure.

Posted By: Osho Re: Used hybrid piano market snapshot US - 10/13/20 04:16 PM
The asking prices are ridiculous. A couple of years ago, I helped a friend buy mint condition used AvantGrand N1 for $3300 (including delivery - there is no sales tax where we live). At this point, it should be close to $3k.

Posted By: Gombessa Re: Used hybrid piano market snapshot US - 10/13/20 04:28 PM
Well, they're only ridiculous if no one buys them at that price smile

I don't think these DPs will move. I think the seller is wishfully thinking that these are like premium grand pianos, that they're just waiting for the right buyer and it's normal for them to sit on the market for 12-24 months waiting for that circumstance. Meanwhile, anyone actually interested in a hybrid is buying them brand new, for nearly less.
Posted By: Volusiano Re: Used hybrid piano market snapshot US - 10/13/20 05:13 PM
This N3 Facebook ad is for $7,500 (from original ask of $10K). It's not for $5K like CooperTown was saying. Or did they change the price from $5K to $7.5K recently???

Also, even if they paid retail price plus tax and shipping on top for this N3, it wouldn't have amounted to $30K. Not even $25K... There's something to be said about dishonest sellers....
Posted By: CoogerTown Re: Used hybrid piano market snapshot US - 10/13/20 08:38 PM
I tried to negotiate but they won’t budge at 5k

N2 in NYC UWS. Looks like a decent price $5k
https://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/msg/d/new-york-yamaha-avantgrand-n2-hybrid/7265951888.html
Used hybrid market seems to be improving with a decent supply being offered, at least compared to new. These are ask prices so negotiate down.

Dear Sir! Sigh! Just when I was convincing myself I have enough gear, well actually way more than enough gear - I stumble upon this post and as ritual would have it, I checked some local listings. There is a professionally serviced and tuned Yamaha U3 (from what I can see on video and description) that has caught my eye :-|

Can I declare "soft" bankruptcy? laugh

Nevertheless, the used market seems to be doing well!

Special mention as it seems the seller also purchased an advert here at PianoWorld.

The N2 is a rare find in the used market and this is the only one I have found currently for sale in the US.

It looks like the poster/seller of this N2 ad is Frank B. with the signature line as the founder, owner and host of PianoWorld itself??? That's pretty cool. At least you know you're buying from a good source.

I gotta say that $4500 seems to be an excellent asking price, on top of it being a rare find in the used market.

I believe Frank just posts all the "for sale"ads in that subforum, since it's a paid service (so post-access is probably limited to just him)?

Bargain, no. But it may be the reality of the COVID-constrained world we're living in today. Also, I think some of the low-ball prices were a one-off blip, aresult of an authorized dealer "going rogue" and selling online (out of region) for a lower price than allowed; I wouldn't expect that to be the operative price.

Have you seen the asking prices on Ebay?

Even before covid I'd often see asking prices for used pianos at or above the new retail level.

Asking high and accepting offers makes sense on craigslist, like the one cited above.

But on Ebay it strikes me as especially odd because that site mostly operates with fixed prices these days. It's no longer really a bidding site any more.

Speaking of Ebay ... does anyone use it anymore?
Posted By: mmatthew Re: Used hybrid piano market snapshot US - 02/17/21 11:46 AM
Right with you there about eBay. I'm using it less and less these days. I go there only when I can't find certain items elsewhere, example,
- Old stock or mint condition older metronome I like
- Yamaha's sheet music
- Other Urtext editions not available elsewhere

etc. etc. I loved the bidding 'era' of eBay. Not there anymore.

$5000? Is it broken or something?

That piano (in the Netherlands / western Europe) sits around €8900 new, including tax. I wouldn't expect it to be on sale for less than €7900; maybe €7500 if you're lucky.

I have an NU1 and I tried an NU1x. They are practically the same instrument. Nothing to object if you want to bash Yamaha for how '90s the feature set of this instrument is (in fact I'd join you in that bashing).
Keep in mind that the NU1x, currently in production and without a replacement in sight any time soon, does not have much more than the NU1 did not have already. At that price, if I liked the instrument (which basically means the action), I'd jump on it immediately. By comparison: https://denver.craigslist.org/msd/d/denver-yamaha-nu1-avantgrand-digital/7277954083.html

Check the user manual online to make sure it has what you need/want (it does have the metronome, ability to record and play -- even from USB thumb drive -- and play WAV backing tracks -- from a vintage looking user interface).

Assuming the nu1 is in good condition, I think $2k ask is superb value for a real Yamaha piano action. These rarely are offered in the $2k range but do pop up from time to time.

I can't think of any other digital piano in this price range that comes close.

If I was even marginally in the market, I'd take an NU1 for $2k in a heartbeat. Imagine getting a hybrid for the price people are paying for a decent slab like an ES8/FP-90!

I used to live in NJ and work in the city. I'd be happily grabbing this! Still waiting for sweet offers in OH, KY, IN cool
Posted By: Pete14 Re: Used hybrid piano market snapshot US - 03/02/21 03:06 PM
I noticed he only asks for a meager $4,800 and the NU1X is chipped at the fallboard; what a bargain (sarcasm)!

Oh, and about the bookcases, I don’t care if Ethan Allan delivers them himself and then grabs a bite with me to discuss the history of bookcases, and then takes a selfie with me, and then gives me a check for $2,500; it’s a freaking bookcase, for god’s sake, when will we stop this nonsense?

What next, 10K for a Gucci bag? Oh wait, that’s already a thing!

Yes, there are people out there willing to pay thousands of dollars for a bag and then spend the rest of their lives trying to justify it.

“But you see, this is not just a bag; it’s a work of art.” No! it is just a bag; the Well-Tempered Clavier is a work of art!

We saw that long title but didn't read it hahaha. The ask price is not bad so with some negotiation and excluding the ratty green bookcases, this could be an attractive price.

The white Ikea bookcases shown in the first picture, but not on offer, are the real deal for bibliophiles around the world.

Damn, newer, you have an assistant?

I can’t even afford ‘free’ delivery because, yes, it’s free, but I still have to tip the guy.

You know, anything less than a five-dollar tip is considered an insult nowadays.

When did this happen? Not too long ago a delivery tip was first optional, and second no more than fifty cents; now you have to pay a fee for delivery and still obliged to tip. What is happening?

I asked, it was sold smile But they do have a new one!

A used N2 for $12.5K??? Is the owner living in another world??? Did they even pay that much for it to begin with?

Does anyone know if the DUP-8 can be disassembled in some sort? I tried translating that page but couldn't find a manual or assembly details.

EDIT: I found the manual, but as expected it's in Japanese, and the pictures don't seem to show any assembly/disassimbly instructions. https://jp.yamaha.com/files/download/other_assets/6/315676/DUP8_DUP22B_OM_j_YC259B0.pdf
Users' Manual is here

https://jp.yamaha.com/products/musi...pianos/dup-8/downloads.html#product-tabs

You can download the larger PDF. Then open google translate, upload the file and it will be translated to English.

I don't remember if a Nu1 servic manual is floating around on the internet with more info.

This is the shipping box and assembly of the similar NU1

Yes, there's a NU1 service manual floating around, but as the video shows, the instrument is shipped pre-assembled. The service manual includes disassembly instructions, but they are just for accessing the various internal parts (e.g. pedals, actions, electronics, etc). As far as I can tell, even if you disassemble it almost completely, there must be a frame of about the same dimension of the whole instrument and as such there is no advantage for transportation (perhaps weight reduction, if that's just to carry it on a higher/lower level of a building)

The seller of the DUP-8 is selling it for a cheap, acceptable price (it's $700 now.) It just gave me an idea to have a nice little piano in a cozy little corner of my office.

The problem is my office is in an upstairs room with a narrow 90 degree turn staircase. I don't want the piano anywhere else. I can't move the office either. I guess I'll have to see the piano in person to make a judgement. Hiring movers is not a problem, I'd just need to give them a good enough description of the job.

I have reached out to the seller via email, it may even be already sold.

Most likely movers will be able to make it. Check the specs for dimensions, make a box of cardboard of 1" larger in all directions and try to haul it there. If you can without squishing it, movers will make it, and the price will depend on weight (which is likely to be spinet-like or lighter hence the bottom of their scale for pricing).
Here are the specs. The price is compelling. It is heavy so hire some movers, at least for the stairs.

Can any keen and observant/conversant Yamaha experts here identify which Disklavier model this is? I came across a listing on CL but the owner has no idea what the model of the piano and the Disklavier is. It belonged to her late mom and I found it delicate/insensitive to probe further.
Maybe a Mark II XG system from the 1990s. I remember having this exact unit on a 48" upright that was built in 1995-1996.

Of everyone on the forum, Pro-TAC knows the most about these.

Thank you @terminaldegree. BTW, that turned out to be a scam :-| when I asked for a visit to see the piano in person the lister gave some lame excuse about it being in transit etc. etc. - details not worth this forum's attention!

10,995 for a used N3? That’s about the price -or should be- of a new N3X!

Anyone looking for an N3, don’t fall for these kinds of scams!

The N3 is from 2009 and it’s not worth more than 7K!
There are some attractively priced used hybrids in the batch.
We spent a quick minute brainstorming how small the US used hybrid piano market is.

Used market. Very rough estimate looking at a few used reports here. Maybe at any given time, we typically are seeing about 30 units with total asking prices of about $150,000, for an average used price of $5,000/unit). The market is bigger as PW search will miss some pianos.

New market must be much larger. Higher new prices & presumably a lot more volume to support the industry. Eyeballing the PW new prices paid spreadsheet, say new average prices are $8,500/unit. And say we use the historic ratio of new-to-used auto sales of about 3x. And let's assume dealers sell new hybrids 45 days after receipt (no idea what real turnover might be). Desktop estimating the US new hybrid annual retail sales by (90 units x $8500/unit x 360/45 days) shows $6 million range , which seems low for 2 companies selling 6 models.

Interesting thought experiment anyways.
