73 keyboards are rarely keyboards with hammer action , because the target population is synth / electronic users . It would be a bit of a non sense from a market point of view. It can still be of interest for pianists with limited space and playing 18th century music ( Mozart : 65 keys) but most advanced classical music from 19th onwards will require more than 73 keys same with advanced jazz or progressive /fusion piano . 88 keys is a must , 76 is already a compromise, 73 forget it

Tell that to Mitch Foreman (73 key Rhodes suitcase). Just saw him with Tom Scott & LA Express. Drummer on gig said "best since Chick."
Selmer Mark VI Tenor (‘73) & Alto Sax (‘57), Yamaha YSS-62 Soprano Sax (‘87), Conn Naked Lady Baritone Sax (‘52), Conn New Wonder Tenor & Alto Sax (‘24), Yamaha WX5 Wind Synth (‘13), Kawai MP11 & ES-110, Numa Compact 2x, Casio PX5S, Roland VR-09, Hammond E-112 (‘69).

I’m only referring to pianos being replication of acoustic pianos . Majority of Rhodes or Wurlitzer performances can be played on 73 keys , but good luck if you want to perform prog rock music ( traditional Rick Wakeman / Tony banks/ Keith Emerson) or modern ( dream theatre & co) or advanced jazz ( Jarrett , Chick Corea) with 73 keys . All these musicians use the full range of acoustic pianos. They usually play with either stack of pianos 88 keys for pianos and 73/61 for electronic or electric sounds or workstations like Korg Kronos ( Jordan Rudess ) which has 88 keys but is versatile enough as a standalone instrument.

Well now (May 24, 2025) we don't know what the tariff situation is; it seems to change almost daily.

I had to cancel an Andertons order (different product) because they could not assure me that I would not get hit with 20%, 50%, or even 145% tariffs.

For the controller, audio in is via the usbc cable. This currently works for Mac only. Not sure if adding the USB C to lightning adapter will kill this feature but you can reach out to Sl for confirmation: info@studiologic-music.com

Thanks! I think I had better reach out to Gianni before I make a decision on Numa X GT versus the new controller-only version (SLGT88MK2).

I found THIS:

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MUQ93AM/A/usb-c-to-lightning-cable-1-m

I wonder if it will work? - not only for audio in, but just "at all." Maybe it just charges?

Re: Studiologic SL73, SL88 & SL88GT Mk2

Also .. what about using the SLGT88 MK2 with Windows to record into Presonus Studio One on my Windows laptop? It does have a USB-C port. This would not involve the on-controller audio interface, necessarily.

So it should work, correct?

I suppose it depends on your sound source and workflow. My Fp-90X is basically a midi controller as I don't need the speakers and am always using VST's (hence my interest in possibly swapping out for the SL88 MKII). My FP 90X sends midi to my laptop either triggering Noire in the stand alone player for practice or triggering VST's within Ableton Live when recording. Either way I am always listening to the audio output from the laptop. When I have a recording I want to polish up or keep building on I move the project to my Mac Studio where I can take advantage of my UAD Apollo interface and plug ins.

Per that USB C to lightning cable I would definitely check with Gianni. I'm not sure if audio and midi will transmit over that but perhaps someone else here will chime in.

I use my Windows ASUS ProArt Studiobook for most things, including recording with Presonus Studio One.

I have several audio interfaces; some are USB-B, some USB-C AND USB-B, but none are USB-C ONLY.

I have a MacBookPro (with a screen that's too small for me) that I can use with the SL88GTMK2, USB-C only (which, BTW, I hate, as there is no discernible benefit yet it presents a connectivity nightmare). I do have a USB hub that results in a proper USB-B port (several ports, actually).

My iPads have 1/8" audio out, so I assume that will work in any event.

That said, I will probably use the SL88GTMK2 with Ivory 3, which I will buy for the occasion (I have the original Ivory...). That will at least work on the MBP assuredly.

BTW, I'm also in LA (I'm mainly a saxophonist).

Re: Studiologic SL73, SL88 & SL88GT Mk2

I was holding out for the SL88 GT MK2, but I lost interest in it after seeing David B's video on the Numa Piano X GT that shows a fixed velocity of 4 for repeated notes. See at 5:51

I figure that if StudioLogic didn't fix it for the Numa it's likely going to be the same on the SL88 GT MK2.

I didn't realize David had already moved on to another digital piano. Hard to keep up! laugh

I can't blame him really. Digital pianos (and MIDI controllers) have a lot of issues to sort through! And he raises some good points about them that we would never hear from influencers.

Re: Studiologic SL73, SL88 & SL88GT Mk2

Hello, I got a SL Grand 88 last summer with the TP-40 - its been great- I use mostly with Ivory and pianoteq- I have my Arturia MKII 61 above it on a second tier that I use for organ sounds etc...

Am I missing much with the upgrade? How noticable is Midi 2.0- does it have additional levels to 16,384 in velocity?

Re: Studiologic SL73, SL88 & SL88GT Mk2

Hey all, I found this YouTuber review of a Mk2 (not the GT). The reviewer mentions a number of problems when using the keyboard within a DAW environment, and when using the keyboard zones. Sounds like there are a bunch of bugs still to be ironed out. I know people in this forum may be less interested in the features of the keyboard that go beyond those used for controlling piano VSTs, but just wondering if any of the people here who have their hands on one have experienced similar issues?

How are you supposed to get hold of a SL GT MK2 in UK when the shops all say the same thing, not in stock for weeks, then when the weeks are up it says the same thing again over and over… are they just ordering 1 piano each time lol, considering this was supposed to be released months ago it’s a shambles, I was interested in getting one but not now as they’ll never be available.

You can reach out to the distributor in your area to get a better idea of when they will be available. American distributor told me this week that they are not expecting them to be in stores here for 30-60 days. Of course I would love to demo it sooner but when looking at all of the war, famine and disease plaguing many parts of the world, needing to have some patience for Studiologic to sort out whatever issues they are having with this release goes into the "first world problems" category for me.

Indeed. Looking forward to seeing what replaces the 525.

Re: Studiologic SL73, SL88 & SL88GT Mk2

There’s a customer return SL GT MK2 available to buy in UK for £689 and that’s it!

That’s pretty cheap though.

I see it’s only powered by usb c though? Would the best idea in this instance to be to buy a cable with usb C one end and usb A the other so it’s connects to a laptop to power it? My laptop has a usb C connection but it’s needed for its power supply so I only have usb A connections left… is that enough?

Why doesn’t it come with a proper power supply I wonder and wouldn’t it be more convenient if it was usb A?

This is a good question as I will need to go from USB C to thunderbolt on my laptop. I've reached out to Gianni to see if the midi/audio will function the same when needing to connect to a non USB C port. I will post here when I hear back.

I believe USB-C is capable of transmitting both power and data simultaneously, so I guess they didn't seem to think a separate power connection was necessary. Although they do seem to include a power brick with the keyboard so I suppose one could use the USB-C as a dedicated power input and connect to the computer separately via a midi-to-USB converter.

Depending on the MacBook and which generation of thunderbolt you should still be able to use USB through it.

USB-C is the modern plug standard which gets a little hairy because there are a lot of USB-A accessories around. It gets weirder still because there is USB protocol and USB jack. One isn't necessarily indicative of the other. For example thunderbolt 4/5 use the USB-C connector despite being thunderbolt. Further, on macs, TB4/5 can also accomodate USB.
