Hey guys,

Long time poster, but haven't posted in over 5 years!

I'm finally purchasing an acoustic, and I've focused my attention to used Yamaha uprights. I will be purchasing from a store dealer (so taxes are not included in price) and I'm in Canada.

There is one U3 that I'm very fond of and it is priced at $3800. Based on the Serial #, it was built in the 1979-1980.

I'm also looking at a U1 that was built in 1980-1981, and the ask is $3600

I'd like to know if this is a competitive price, or do you think I can go lower?

Thanks!

PS: This website hasn't changed since 2004 smile

Hi - welcome back. Yes, that's about line-ball price. With any used piano, but particularly as they age, it's worth getting a technician to check it out for potential problems.

There is a very in-depth discussion on this same issue still going on which you could consult:

"Very confused about grey market Yamahas".

Enjoy the search, play lots of pianos so you know the market. Don't rush either. That way you'll find one which you enjoy listening to and playing.
